Can't Sleep

Cant sleep at the moment, So I'm bloging..

Life is ok at the moment, I had my first day at uni today, For my subject 70% of the marks come from group work and 30% from an exam. I'm not impressed by this, but I will survive I guess.

I am awake as I'm thinking to much, just like the thinking that somewhat degraded my enjoyment of my holidays. Ohwell, that’s life.

This comes to an interesting theory that I have, I believe that going to university is bad as it makes me discover is that there are so many better people out there that me, and puts myself in a situation that allows me so see my flaws even more. That is, university just makes me feal more unintellectual than when I first went to uni.

Hmm, that theory has nothing to do with what I'm thinking of, but hey, I do believe in that theory and I have held it for some time.

Ohwell, back to uni tomorrow, but before then, allot more thinking needs to be done.

Cheerio.

Holidays Over

Hi. My holidays are over… Unfortunately they were not the “package of excitement” that I would have hoped for, but they were reasonable. In the end, they were what I made them to be :-P

Some cool stuff did occur in my holidays, My dad got a new work car (A Holden instead of a crappy ford), which I drove when it had only 38 km on the odometer, and on the other driving front can now drive my mothers manual car really well.

However the holidays were quite tedious, they were so boring in fact that last week I went for a meaningless drive, I was going to drive to the town “Owen” to purchase some flue for my dads car, but It was just a tad to far for me to drive late at night (if I had decided to drive there at the start of my drive, I would have driven there, but 2 hours into the meaningless drive was not a good time to make a decision on where to drive..)

Now, I did have some anxiousness during my holidays, partly due to my experiences with my recently purchased $200 KVM switch breaking. One phone call and without any checking of serial numbers, or following fault finding instructions I was sent a brand new switch. Now, this all turned out well, however after 20 minutes of using my KVM switch I managed to break the new one :- Oh well.. After another phone call and a helpful technician they helped me fix the firmware (which I had tried to flash :-# shhhhh)

I also discovered Google maps (and earth), which is an amazing service. It contains high resolution pictures of the earth surface (1 pixel to 0.7 m ), so you can see a car in my driveway if you know what you are looking for. However so many places are just out of range of the high resolution imagery and are limited to a reasonable resolution (you can just make out streets and houses are present, but you could not make out a specific house)

Although I did make a trip down to Seaview Aquariums to so some friends their range of fish & aquarium related stuff. Now, I was making a gamble taking them there as I have not been there for about 6 years, but the gamble paid off amazingly well, it has improved and I was amazed! (I am usually not amazed these days as I have grown up and things seem so much smaller and less spectacular)

Last week (which happened to be my last week of holidays) I spent a whole heap of time in at uni. I went in one day to enrol in some classes (I have to get forms signed to enrol in classes as my university don’t like me) I then went to uni again to go to a meeting at 8am in the city, unlike my normal character I turned up a day early, so that meant another trip into the city the next morning. My 4th trip into uni was to get one last form sighed to enrol in a subject which had just opened up.

I Got 2 marks for my uni studies so far. I have to say I had a very mixed bag, One was a HD (yay!!!) and one was a P2 (pass between 50 and 55%, My uni University are so nice, they have passes where you should really fail)

Over the least couple of days I have shopped for and bought a new TV for myself, It looks cool, and has a brilliant image :-) I'm happy, I probably spent more on it that I should have, but I did not spend any money that I did not have, and I watch a lot of TV, so I put it as a good buy.

Anyway, this Thursday is the start of my studies this semester. I would usually have lecturers on Monday and Wednesday, but my lecturer was caught in China with some work he had to attend to or something like that.

Oh well, Just boring old uni for me this semester..

21st

On Friday night I went to a 21st party. I quite enjoyed it, The place was cool, and what’s best, I got to meet a whole heap of people from my high school that I have not seen in a couple of years, and some that I had not seen since I was in high school

It was an ok time, I decided to drive there, therefore I only had 2 light beers over 4 hours, however fortunately it turned out to be a low dinking affair (That is fortunate as I would have felt a little left out). I did buy a tequila for the birthday boy, however he took it upon himself to take a sip and shot the whole amount. Oh well, he is not a big alcohol person, there is nothing wrong with that.

Also, this weekend I moved my room around, and put in a new TV cabernet. Now all I have in my room is a built in wardrobe, a bed and a TV cabernet, nice and neat. Today I decide to hied all of the unsightly cables that my surround sound DVD player come with. So I got up in the roof and drilled a whole heap of holes in the wall. Not I have less wires (although I still have to put the wires from 2 more speakers into the wall. Fortunately all of my speakers are above the noggins (horizontal pieces of wood about half way up the wall)

Anyhoo, I'm off to watch the UK formula one race..

Manual Cars and Cookies

When I learnt to drive, I learnt how to drive in an automatic car. I learnt in an automatic as I did not have a manual car to learn in, and it is easier to learn how to drive in an automatic vehicle. As I was taking lessons, my mum and I decide it would best to drive in automatics to try to reduce the cost of learning to drive.

Now this does pose a problem, I do have manual cars that I can drive at my disposal at the moment, however I cannot drive them. In addition I have developed a whole heap of bad habits in driving that will make driving a manual car a little hard (Like breaking with both feet) If the automatic car I drive is being driven by someone else, I have no car I can drive (but there are cars that I cannot drive taunting me due to my lack of skills and their suitability to transport me)

So, today I addressed this issue. I do have to admit, I have been meaning to learn to drive a manual car for a year now.

SO, my mum took me out in her little 1 Litre, 3 cylinder car. I did manage to drive the car quite well. I did stall it a couple of times, change into the wrong gear, However all in all it went many times better than I expected. My only challenges now are reversing and hill starts (using the handbrake)

One other thing I did get up today was to try to make my own Subway White Chocolate Macadamia nut cookies, with the intent to make my own that would save me some money, give me a small challenge, and would provide a good method to get some cookies in the future when subway is closed. So a little Google search, and I had my recipe, a drive to the shops (in a manual car) and I had the ingredients, All I needed to do then was to make them.

I did succeed in making some nice tasting cookies. However, I did make less cookies than I could have got from subway from the money I spent on the ingredients to make the cookies. Now, numbers are nothing when size is different, however unfortunately this also did not go my way. Usually subway cookies are about palm size, well mine were about the size of the circle that is formed when touching thumb and index finger. I do have to admit that my cookies were higher, which with their small diameter made them rocks..

The Main difference between my cookies and the subway cookies is that my cookies had allot more chocolate and macadamia nuts than the subway ones (I would say about 5 times more). This did mean my cookies were verry rich and different to subway cookies, Although my favourite part of subway cookies is the not fully cooked cookie dough.

Anyhoo, I'm off to finish eating my cookies…

Recent week

Over the past week I have been to Port Pirie and have come back to Adelaide. One of my friends from high school, who is an ambulance paramedic, Has just recently bought a brand new house, and I have not seen him for a long time, so I went up to see his house (he lives and works at Port Pirie) and spend some relaxing time with him. His house is very nice.

I had a very nice and relaxing a couple of days without any internet or computers. I did have a new experience, I drink some absinth, and I have to say, that stuff rocks!! It is very good, strong (it burns allot), but nothing a bit of water and sugar cannot dilute.

On the bus ride home there was some weird guy on the bus trying to chat to me. Very annoying. Oh well, it’s a public world. I just gave him the cold shoulder and after about half an hour he got the message. Sad I know….

This trip did mean I could not attend my uni groups end of semester pub crawl.

Anyway, that’s it from me for now… Cheerio.
