Mob Bob 2004 has occurred!!

Hey, Mob Bob 2004 has occurred.

Ok, what is Mob Bob. Well a very nice chap from uni, Bob, lives near the beach. About a month back Tim and I decided it would be fun to “Mob Bob” during the summer and use the beach. The idea being we would surprise Bob and many people would go.

So yesterday Kuhn, from uni, decided to organise Mob Bob for us. Thankyou very much Khun!!!

Today at 5PM we managed to meet out in front of his house and once all of the people that were Mobbing we then preceded up to Bob’s house in to his house to meet and greet him. I’m not sure if bob was very surprised, I think he was…

Unfortunately not everyone from the uni group turned up, 6 people in total, but still this was a good group size for the event. Another disappointment was that it was quite cool, so no beach was utilised :( However this said, I do think it was excellent!!!

We had many cool foods while we were there. On thing we did have was a durian. My take on a Duran is that they are these weird fruit things that taste like a mix between watermelon, nuts and paper. It was very interesting, but it had a bad texture. Thank you very much Khun for searching around all day for it!! I also had some goulash which was very good. Thanks must go to the chef, Snezana!!

We sat around a fair amount of time talking and joking about. It was a very good, I can only hope that in my next 2 years at uni I will be with people of this calibre in terms of friendliness :-)

When leaving bob’s place Tim and I discussed going to mob Cat’s sister. You see her sister is living in cat’s house (which is just around the corner from bobs) while cat is overseas. In the end it was too late in the night (10 pm), only Tim and I (maybe another person if we pushed) would have gone and cats sister may have not know about the mobbing. These things made us think it may have been a little too scary for her so we decided to call off any mobbing (we did not want the cops called on us) Oh well sorry Cat, maybe another day hey…

On another note, earlier on in the day I was my mum’s family’s Christmas gig. It was cool, many people were, it was fun. Since my family had this Christmas gig this weekend, Christmas day is now less cluttered for me :-D

Cheerio, Have a Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Nothing special, As usual.

Over the last couple of days I have been having fun with trying to organise my new program enrolment. I have been phoning and e-mailing many people.

One issue I have had is my ability to obtain a full time enrolment. I am going to enrol in both postgraduate and undergraduate courses next year and the university is changing it's methods for labelling semesters and terms. The university decided it would be a good idea to change from the 130 ish time periods the university currently has to 7. This has caused me a couple of problems, what’s more no one knows what is happening. After trying to find out how this change would affect my enrolment the people at my uni decided that I should rely on their common scene (and not strict rules that they do know) to determine if I am a full time student. So hopefully when they determine my full time status I will be dealing with someone that is not having a bad day.

Fortunately I have not had the problems that my uni friends have had. They have ended up with a $1500 debt to the uni because they never knew they had to fill out some form to defer their fee payment. Note the university sent them the bill on the last day in which they could apply to defer and since they were all working that day no one read the bill until the afternoon when the uni was closed.

Another problem I have encountered is that I might not be able to graduate next year. The university believe I will have to wait a year or pay the full fees next year.

Anyway, last night I went to heaven. It was ok, there were a couple of disappointments. The main toilets were "being cleaned" all night, so that made the night painful. Next disappointment was the fact that Cat, who had hinted that she may be able to make it there, never turned up, oh well :P The third disappointment was the guest of the night, Riki from Australian idol, turned up very late and once there she did not do much (in terms of meeting people, performing etc). However that said it was still good, the place was packed, there was a good vibe and all the people I usually hang around with were there.

On a final note I have not studied at all for my MCP exam, however I received a e-mail from Microsoft (as I am a Microsoft partner) stating that the exam costs have dropped from $245 to $180 :-D I’m calling that progress!!

Anyhoo, cheerio.

MCP

As you may or may not be aware I am a big, big Microsoft fan. I love their software, So much so I have bought a nice .NET laptop bag.

Now, why bring this topic up?? Well I also love to get free stuff from Microsoft.

In an attempt to get free stuff from them, about a year back, I decided to try to get a "Microsoft Certified Professional" qualification. Since my university studies have been based heavily around databases what better way to achieve this than to qualify through doing the "Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition" exam.

Well this has so far failed. I have been slack in learning for it, and have been putting it off while I’m at uni and while I’m doing stuff with oracle (There SQL syntaxes differ slightly, so I don’t want to get bogged down in the exam or doing uni work). Now next year, 2005 (permitting Microsoft don’t anger the software development gods and yet again hold back the release date of their software), a new version of SQL sever may be coming out and therefore maybe making the exam obsolescent.

So over the next couple of weeks I might get myself into gear and learn, yet again, for a MCP qualification. I've been saying I will do it for ages, and since I have some free time on my hands I figure I might as well do it.

So what do I get for free for doing this, unfortunately not much other than the fact that I can say I have got the qualification (until they discontinue the exam out and pull my qualification).

In the past, through various means I have received lots of fun stuff from Microsoft. This included posters, bunting, free copies of office, hats, calculators and more. It's amazing what they actually give away.

Anyhoo cheerio.

Mob Bob 2004

I've missed out on Mob Bob 2004.

Ohwell, mob bob would have been excellent if the temperature were extremely high, so I suppose I did not miss out on much.

The beginning of my BIS era

Yep it’s true, today I went into my university and started to organise my enrolment into my new degree.

I had a very early appointment with my "program" director, however since it's the holidays I managed to wake early after a late night without feeling tired. Fortunately the meeting went better than I expected it would, probably due to my high level of preparation.

2 fun things did happen.

1- One of the subjects I will take next year had this weird guy assigned to teach it. The program director did not know this, even though he is in charge of the subject. So after telling him this and embarrassing him (I think) he was a little more personable.

2 - The program director had published a brochure with deceptive details in it. During my meeting he had to make a phone call apologising for the details. After the phone call I informed him that the same misleading statement could be found in a pamphlet as well. After searching the pamphlet and finding the same incorrect statement he uttered the words "well fuck me dead". That’s one for the quotes page Tim???

Anyhow, I now have to select my elective subjects and when I want to do my studies. Unfortunately I have many obstacles in my enrolment, one is the fact that fees are doubling in my second year.

Oh well. Life sucks, but I’ll get over it :(

After my meeting I missed my bus home by 2 minutes. So instead of standing around the city meaninglessly waiting for my bus, I decided to catch a bus and walk a couple of KM to my home. Apart from my joints hurting I felt very good for this exercise.

Anyhoo, have fun, Cheerio

Hey

Hey, Not much has been happening in my life over the last couple of days.

I was very bord on Friday night so I decided to get in the car and drive to Murray Bridge. It was a fun drive at night, no one was around and this provided me with a lot of open space to think. I did notice that Bordertown was only 200 km away from Murray Bridge, so I almost kept on driving just so I could say I was in Victoria. My drive was at night and I had no decent camera to take a photo, so I decided against this, maybe another day. After consulting some maps, I have come to the conclusion that it may be faster to drive to Victoria through Pinnaroo, I’ll investigate this and maybe act upon it.

With regard to uni, yesterday I found out that that I have been officially accepted to transfer degrees. I have a meeting on Thursday to organise my transfer and enrolments.

I have now received all of my grades for this semester. I am very happy, it was my best semester so far. My marks are as follows:
Australian Politics and Economics - Credit
Distributed systems - High Distinction
Information systems Policy - Distinction
Information Systems Project - Distinction

I unfortunately had to do Australian Politics and economics, as my university has this stupid rule where everyone has to have a “broad knowledge”, and what better way to achieve this than to force all students to take 2 subjects out of their learning area. I think this is stupid, as they apply this on who teaches a course and not what the course content is about.

IMHO it would be better to achieve a broad knowledge by integrating broader applications of courses and course materials instead of attaching some knowledge hap-hazardley off of the side of a persons knowledge.

Night On the Town V 2

Ok, here is my bloging experience from last night, put more eloquently than I did when I arrived home from cubing.

Last night for me was spent “out on the town” specifically Heaven. Whilst it is not the best of places in the world I like it and the company there is grate. At the start of the night I met Tim and his work college Terry.

The normal group of people I know attended. This included David, Edward, Jamie and Logan in all his glory.

Cat from Tim’s work did not attend although she alluded that she would.

Fun was had by all, many drinks were downed. Unfortunately at around midnight Tim decided to move his car or something along those lines. Anyhoo he leaves, and gets kicked out, not let back in or something... In addition to this crisis (ok, this may be too strong a word) apparently David’s car got covered in toilet paper...

A fair time after Tim left I got an SMS from him stating that they got kicked out and he will not be coming back, as you may guess this could have been very upsetting :(

However this was not the worst thing that could happen. Fortunately I managed to run into a couple of my friends from high school, Urrbrae. One thing I did do was to have some disgusting tasting shot (I think it was chatruce) with one of my friends, fun :-P. Mark, one of my Urrbrae friends, had tried to get a couple of my other friends along to heaven last night however his attempts failed.

My friend and I swapped phone numbers so we could catch up again and danced about for a couple of hours. Yes, I danced, and Tim missed it :(

So in the end I managed to stay around heaven until 3 am ish... Around this time I managed to find myself alone, So I decided to go home. Unfortunately arranging a ride home (kudos goes to my parents who are prepared to pick me up at crazy times), one of the girls from high school found me again and wanted to dance, however my ride home had arrived.

I was quite surprised at how big the heaven complex is. On the night A fair few of the “rooms” were open, so I decided to go for a little stole for a look / see. However when I left 3 of the bars were closed, for some reason I don’t think they wanted me there anymore. The real reason behind the bars closing is probably because the people were starting to clear out.

One complaint I do have is the temperature of the free drinking water was to high for my liking, It was warm which made me feal ill. I usually drink water as it is apparently as good as an intravenous drip in stoping hangovers. For those of you who think the IV drip has less drawbacks, well apparently IV fluids still go through your bladder. (Sorry, to much information hey.)

Have the best of fun everyone, I’ll catch up soon. Cheerio :D

Limited edition post, may be deleted.....

Deleted due to my lack of skills in bloging after clubbing.

Wazup? Not Much

Hi all.

I have been quite fine over the last couple of days. For me it has been very relaxin as I start to settle into my holidays.

On the news front, I have applied for a job, as mentioned previously, however have not heard anything yet. I'll keep you'll posted.

I have however got my first mark back from uni, a HD. I was very impressed with the time it took, from my exam last Tuesday afternoon to getting my mark the next Wednesday the lecturer has managed to mark the exams, determine out final grad and do whatever lectures do internally to get marks approved (they may not do this, I’m not sure) I have to say this is a good turnaround (well it was a smallish class so it may not be that amazing, but it still is amazing!) Unfortunately the only way with my marks is down, and I'm very sure this is the way they will go, but sure they want go too far down :-p

Another thing that has happened quickly is I now have my very own visa, earlier than the bank promised it. On the bank’s web site they stated that there is a card with my university’s "student association" logo on it, fortunately I have not got one of these cards as I do not like my student association (My student association is expensive and does not do much for me, well at best they don’t sell themselves very well.) I can now shop online without borrowing other people’s credit cards!

So what’s on the line for the next couple of days and weeks. Well I might be going out, YAY, and getting more grades from uni :D Also I might plan my enrolment for my next 2 years. Unfortunately my enrolment is not a strait forward issue and to add to this, the subjects I am supposed to be doing are not scheduled to be taught next year, crazy stuff!!!

Anyhoo have fun everyone :-p Cheerio
